October 11, 2017—The House Energy & Commerce oversight subcommittee held its second hearing on the 340B [1]program this morning, focusing on how covered entities track and use their savings to improve patient care. Three 340B hospitals and health systems testified – Mission Health (N.C.), The Johns Hopkins Hospital (Md.), and Northside Hospital (Ga.). The committee also heard from HRSA grantees Carolina Health Centers (S.C.) and AIDS Resources Center of Wisconsin.
Committee members from both parties expressed support for 340B, calling it important and critical and saying no one wanted it eliminated. Several Republicans, however, said they were troubled that the absence of reporting requirements makes it impossible to guarantee that 340B savings are going toward patient care.
